Checkers, also known as Draughts, is a two-player strategy game played on a square board consisting of 64 squares. The game is played with a set of 12 pieces for each player, usually in contrasting colors, typically black and white.
At the beginning of the game, the pieces are placed on the dark squares of the board in the three rows closest to each player. The pieces are initially positioned in such a way that each player has his or her pieces on the opposite side of the board.
The objective of the game is to capture all the opponent's pieces or to block them so that they cannot move. Players take turns moving their pieces diagonally, one square at a time, in an attempt to reach the opponent's side of the board.
A piece may capture an opponent's piece by jumping over it diagonally to an empty square on the other side of the captured piece. If a player's piece reaches the farthest row from their starting position, the piece is crowned "king" and gains the ability to move both forward and backward.
If a player is unable to move, their opponent wins the game. The game may also end in a draw if neither player is able to win.
